Between yesterday and the day prior I noticed that I developed a pimple, which led to me to do some searching as to how acne is related to immunity and came across an article that had some interesting insights.

First off, I learned that acne is shorthand for acne vulgaris, and is labelled a 'skin disease.' I had never really regarded acne as a disease. It is caused mainly by issues involving the sebaceous glands, whether its androgen-driven secretion, blockage, or bacterial infection from Cutibacterium acnes.

The latter issue I mentioned is of interest because this bacterium is able to cause inflammation by interacting with the innate immune system by four main means: utilizing TLRs, causing inflammasomes to activate, promoting matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) production, catalysing the actions of antimicrobial peptide.

Th1 and Th17 lymphocytes are the main actors in the adaptive immune response.
